Las Vegas Criminal Defense Attorney Pat McDonald
Profile: Southern Nevada Defense Attorney Pat McDonald
Patrick E. McDonald, "Pat", is a third generation Nevadan and a second generation Las Vegan. He earned his law degree from the University of Arizona in 1988 and was licensed to practice law in Nevada the same year. Pat spent three years as a Deputy Public Defender protecting the right of people accused for every type of crime from misdemeanors such as domestic battery and DUI, to felonies like sexual assault and murder.
In 1992, he left public service to establish a private practice. He was appointed by the Eighth Judicial District Court to defend anyone accused of murder. In the first five years of private practice, Pat represented 12 people being prosecuted for murder by the Clark County District Attorney. The State of Nevada sought the death penalty in each of these cases. Only one client received a death verdict, which was later overturned on an appeal, which Pat argued before the Nevada Supreme Court.
Pat has represented many accused of felony crimes at jury trials. He has also represented people accused of crimes at preliminary hearings, misdemeanor trials, parole and probation revocations, evidentiary hearings and sentencing hearing in Clark County, Nye, Lincoln, Elko, Eureka Counties, and Reno.
In addition to criminal law, Pat also represented clients in areas of family law, civil litigation, personal injury and administrative law (transportation, limousine and taxi cab companies) but now limits his practice to those accused of criminal offense.
Pat is admitted to practice before all the state courts of Nevada, the United States District Court for the district of Nevada, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, located in San Francisco, California.
