Understanding Robbery and Theft Charges in Southern Nevada
Robbery occurs when violence and/or intimidation is used to seize property from someone else. In cases where an actual weapon, such as a gun or knife, was used, an individual may be charged with armed or aggravated robbery.
Under Nevada law, robbery is defined as the unlawful taking of personal property from the person of another, or in his presence, against his will, by means of force or violence or fear of injury, immediate or future, to his person or property, or the person or property of a member of his family, or of anyone in his company at the time of the robbery. A taking is by means of force or fear if force or fear is used to:
- Obtain or retain possession of the property
- Prevent or overcome resistance to the taking
- Facilitate escape

- Burglary
- Petty larceny
- Shoplifting
Consequences:
- The consequences for robbery with the use of a deadly weapon are much harsher.
- You face a minimum term of 2 years and a maximum term of 15 years in the state prison for robbery.
- If committed with the use of a deadly weapon, you will receive an additional consecutive sentence to that of the robbery.
